The simple schematic diagram of the infection process of Verticillium dahliae in cotton. As the initial source of infection, microsclerotia survives in the soil for a long time. Once the conditions are suitable, the microsclerotia germinates to form hyphae and infects cotton root tips. Some postive/negative regulation genes are involved in microsclerotia development
